Originally from the East Coast, Celia Rumsey moved to Santa Fe in 1975, where she was an active participant in the creative life of the city as an artist and philanthropist. Her work was largely autobiographical in nature, dealing with issues of chronic illness and food, for example. These series were shown at the Center for Contemporary Arts in Santa Fe over the years.
The granddaughter of Charles Cary Rumsey, the noted sculptor and polo player, and Mary Harriman Rumsey, sister to Governor Averill Harriman of New York, Celia was a graduate of Bryn Mawr College and a Fulbright Scholar. Her early years in Sands Point, New York and final years in Santa Fe, New Mexico
