Saint Joseph the New of Partos was born in 1568 in Raguza of Dalmatia (today Dubrovnik, Croatia), from a Wallachian Christian family, and was baptized as Jacob. His father was a Venetian named Giovanni Fusco, and his mother, Aikaterina, was originally from Limnos, a Greek island. More precisely, she had Morlach ancestry, which is another name for "MavroVlachos" (Black Wallachian), one of the different Romanian populations spread throughout the entire Balkan peninsula, south of the Danube. After his father's death, the young Jacob moved with his mother in Ochrid, an important Orthodox center in the region, also populated by Romanians and Black Wallachians. Here the young boy went in a monastery school, being 12 years old. Three years later, he entered the Monastery of Our Lady of Ochrid, and remained there about 5 years.

After 5 years as a novice, he went to Mount Athos, to Pantokrator Monastery and he was tonsured monk, being named Joseph.

In the Monastery he was known as Great Schema Monk Joseph the Vlach. Here he lived for many years along with the monks in a strict life of fasting, all-night vigils, obedience and humility. Finally, he became a hermit in the woods nearby and he was said to have the “gift of tears”, a highly prized charisma in Eastern monasticism, and “unceasing prayer”, because he “lowered the mind into the heart”, that means that he united his reason with his spiritual senses. This inner union is considered in Orthodox monasticism, particularly after Gregory Palamas and the hesychast movement, as the ideal of human perfection, theosis.

Because of the holiness of his life, Joseph worked miracles and cured many diseases, especially those who were crippled. Often he was called to several monasteries, where he healed the monks from their bodily sufferings.

After a long time, the monks invited him back into the brotherhood and he was ordained priest and confessor of the monks of Mount Athos. Soon he became known also to the Patriarch of Constantinople, who appointed him abbot of the Monastery of Saint Stephen in Adrianople, where he remained about 6 years. Coming back to Athos, Joseph became abbot in the Monastery of Koutloumousiou, one of the oldest monasteries, basically built from the donations of the Wallachian voivods and noblemen.

Being more than 70 years old, he retired in silence near Vatopaidi Monastery. But his mission still didn’t come to its end.

In 1552, in western Banat, hitherto included in the Kingdom of Hungary, it fell under Turkish rule, being transformed into a Pashalic (1552-1718) based in Timisoara. In this context, it seems that there was Metropolitanate in this region, under the jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Constantinople. It's hard to say what nationality were the Orthodox believers in Banat. The massive Serb migration north of the Danube began after the battle of Kosovo Polje, in 1389, when Serbia was occupied by the Turks. Until then there were in Banat only Romanians (Vlachs), Hungarians and Germans.

A Metropolitan of Timisoara died in 1650 and Joseph the Vlach was sent in his place, despite his age, being about 80 years old. Maybe his nationality was important in the eyes of the Orthodox believers there. In any case, his ordination took place on July 20, 1650 and he served as Metropolitan only for three years. Tradition mentions several miracles of the Saint, including fighting a fire that engulfed the west side of Timisoara. Apparently Joseph came out of the church with the Sacraments in the hands and, after he had prayed with tears, God sent a heavy rain, so that the fire stopped.

Being practically all his life a simple monk, he might have liked the silence of the monastery more than service as a hierarch. In 1653, Joseph retired definitively to the not-far-away Partos Monastery, where he lived for three years.

This information came from a note, made in 1655, in a Menologion that belonged to the Monastery of St. George situated near the city: "This book belongs to the Lord Metropolitan Joseph of Timisoara, in 1655, who voluntarily left the diocese, withdrawing to Partos Monastery, where he lived several years and then moved on to eternal life, where the saints are resting."

According to tradition, when he passed into eternity, the Monastery bells began to beat by themselves. Saint Joseph died being over 85 years old. He was buried in the Monastery’s church nave, opposite the entrance door.

A phenomenal read

The story revolves around a once prosperous Kingdom that has fallen into ruin due to poisonous schemes and betrayal, leading to a time of lawlessness and disarray. The narrative unfolds sixteen years after the fall of the Kingdom, with The Council determined to find an heir who can unite the land and restore its former glory. Amazing!
Format: Kindle
Yeah, this book is definitely the start of something special. I'm really pumped for this new world that K.C. Kean has created. The plot is really intriguing and so are the characters. I became so immersed in this world filled with vampires, mages, fae, shifters, and wolves. The female main character, Addi, is a contender in an academy filled with different supernaturals competing to become the new heir of a kingdom that has fallen apart. She deals with so much push back from most because of who she is and is constantly on the defense. She is such a badass and I loved every one of her mantras to herself. As far as the romance, it's steamy, it's hot, it's a slow burn, yet it's not. Yep, that's how I'm describing it. These men are dark, humorous, and addictive. They definitely have an air of mystery surrounding them and I just want to know more!  I saw part of that cliffhanger coming but it still slapped me in the face. 😆 I live for amazing cliffhangers though and we don't have to wait long until book two because it releases June 28th!!! 🖤

the gasp I guspped 😱
Format: Kindle
This book was so good. I love the world that has been created so far in this story. Addi is a boss and the fact that she is having to hide who she really is from everyone at the academy yet also being able to stand her ground and not be bullied into anything just shows how strong she really is. She doesn’t take anything lying down and even if it makes the target bigger on her she sticks to what she believes is right. Raiden, Brody, Cassian and Kryll all seem to have a pull towards Addi but with them all competing against each other in the hopes to become the next heir they try every way they can think to get her out of their heads and out of their way. I love the push and pull between Addi and the guys. They have this electric chemistry that makes them want to hate each other but fine that they don’t want to pull away from each other. I really can’t stand the girls who are always trying to start stuff with Addi just because the guys show interest and they feel like they have a right to.That also goes for Cassians dad and the dean and her elitist self 🙄 But that ending had me GASPING 😱 like I knew he was a crap person but I didn’t expect that at all. I need the next book ASAP 5/5⭐️’s 2.5/5🌶️’s

It's okay... Needs something
Format: Kindle
This author has potential but her books tend to follow the same formula on plot that I usually DNF. Plot - Girl has goal, boys determined to chase her off (usually for dumb reason), mean girls, and before book 1 is done, guys enamoured with FMC cuz she shiny and pretty. It gets boring fast. This one is an improvement, I completed it and for the most part, I liked it. However, I hate when the FMC tells herself to stay focused, thinks logical, looks like she will be a strong FMC, and in the next chapter succumbing to the MMCs due to lust. Why? Especially, when there hasn't been much conversation between them to justify that level of attraction or connection. Don't get me wrong, I love spice, just make it make sense, its giving fast burn and if that's the case, write 1 book. Second issue, I love bully romances, I want to hate the MMCs, than I want the author to some how make me love them. Chefs kiss 😘 So, I was draw to this book bc of that theme...Not getting it here. Technically, they are sort of mean but this ain't it. One is mean but for a stupid reason... he doesn't need to be distracted by his attraction 🙄, he just looks weak to not be able to control that, just saying. The other two are just followers and don't really care enough about her to bully her. Last one, doesn't bully her, he's just trying to get in her pants. Lastly, we are to believe MMcs are baddies... cruel, ruthless, ambitious, and dangerous... please show me that in the next book cuz saw none of that in this one. That goes for the FMC, the men shouldn't be able to get over her all the dang time, definitely not for someone who has been training their whole life to take back their crown! Third issue, the academy concept is falling flat for me. That needs some world building, development... Something! Its just reading filler space to me. The book description reads like this school is designed to weed out the weak by difficult competitive challenges so your left with one strong leader who will take the throne. Nah... more like charm school. All in all, it follows the same formula as her other "academy" books but slightly better... Not sure if that's true, or maybe I was just determined to finish one of her books for once.

A good start to the story
Format: Kindle
This was definitely entertaining, and the cliffhanger left me curious to see what happens next. Addi is definitely a bad ass and she has to prove herself Day in and Day out because of what she is. I love that. She never cowards and always rises to a challenge. She doesn’t let anyone push her and she always has a comeback for any prejudice thing said to her. I’m looking for more from the guys cause so far I’m honestly unimpressed. They definitely have some growth and helping within these next few books I’ll see that growth and like them a little more.
