How is this achieved? Well, Pickles Cozy is a blow yarn.
Blow yarn is suitably named from the process creating the yarn. Most yarns are made by spinning fibres together into a long strand. The process behind blow yarn is quite different. A blown yarn is made using a thin mesh tube, it has to be super-strong and is therefore made in Polyamide. Loose Baby Alpaca and Extra Fine Merino fibres are then blown into the tube. The fibres are “trapped” within the tube, creating the bulk of the yarn, while the fibres’ ends stick out of the mesh, creating a fluffy halo. The combination of a bulky centre and a fluffy halo gives it a special squishy feel and lightness. In fact, grabbing a ball of Cozy for the first time will leave you perplexed by is weight - or lack thereof.
