From the artist: "The largest canvas I have worked on in many years, (Interior with Dog on a Sofa) was big enough to make a golden labrador puppy almost life size. Surrounded by silk cushions and a watery landscape painting above him, he is deservedly pampered.
I have enjoyed introducing dogs in my recent paintings. Posing (perhaps reluctantly), playing and often lounging, for me they bring a room or a garden to life. Although I consider myself a colorist who enjoys painting flowers, interiors, textiles, patterns, paintings within paintings—each affording endless possibilities—dogs have given my new paintings depth."
