Its progressive layering provides great filtration efficiency and dust holding capacity, while not requiring the use of oils. This media is best suited for street use. Its inverted top makes for more filter surface area, resulting in longer service intervals. The smooth one-piece sealed housing, constructed of heat-resistant cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), features our patent-pending filter-to-housing interface. Its innovative design resembles the original Miata logo and minimizes the total number of parts used. A large, clear sight window allows for hassle-free filter inspection, without having to disassemble your system. An auxiliary air inlet can be used, or closed with a supplied plug. This system features a high quality, computer-designed, dyno-tuned intake tube to achieve maximum power gains while maintaining a perfect fit. Its XLPE material is heat soak resistant and extremely durable. Stainless-steel clamps and a silicone coupling are included for strength and durability, while also providing the most secure installation available. More power, slightly lower (8%) MPG.

Installed on a 2.0 liter Subaru Impreza.
I drive up/down the I5 in california 3-4 times a year. For those that don't know there is about a 200 mile flat stretch where everyone runs at 75-85mph.
With various filters (FRAM, BOSCH, Subaru OEM), I would consistently get 29.8 mpg. Once I installed the K&N, I could feel the car pulling with a bit more power, but I noticed that I was getting about 27.5 mpg.
Totally worth it as the impreza is a little under powered and I don't drive many miles (6k/year) but if you are putting a lot of miles on your car, you may want to have more mpg.

Last December we bought our first new car in 21 years and the first thing I did is stock up on cabin and engine air filters. I've got nothing against dealership OEM parts and pieces but what I do have an issue with is the prices. Luckily, we all have a bit of control over access to OEM quality parts and pieces at significantly more reasonable prices via Amazon. This filter and it's matching cabin filter are excellent in value and take less than 5 minutes to replace. Compare that to paying the hourly rate at your dealer plus the dealership retail price and you'll do what I did and stock up on these two filters. Definitely recommended.
