In their history of Cornell since 1940, Glenn C. Altschuler and Isaac Kramnick examine the institution in the context of the emergence of the modern research university. The book examines Cornell during the Cold War, the civil rights movement, Vietnam, antiapartheid protests, the ups and downs of varsity athletics, the women's movement, the opening of relations with China, and the creation of Cornell NYC Tech. It relates profound, fascinating, and little-known incidents involving the faculty, administration, and student life, connecting them to the Cornell idea of freedom and responsibility. The authors had access to all existing papers of the presidents of Cornell, which deeply informs their respectful but unvarnished portrait of the university.Institutions, like individuals, develop narratives about themselves. Cornell constructed its sense of self, of how it was special and different, on the eve of World War II, when America defended democracy from fascist dictatorship. Cornell's fifth president, Edmund Ezra Day, and Carl Becker, its preeminent historian, discerned what they called a Cornell soul, a Cornell character, a Cornell personality, a Cornell tradition--and they called it freedom. The Cornell idea was tested and contested in Cornell's second seventy-five years. Cornellians used the ideals of freedom and responsibility as weapons for change--and justifications for retaining the status quo; to protect academic freedom--and to rein in radical professors; to end in loco parentis and parietal rules, to preempt panty raids, pornography, and pot parties, and to reintroduce regulations to protect and promote the physical and emotional well-being of students; to add nanofabrication, entrepreneurship, and genomics to the curriculum--and to require language courses, freshmen writing, and physical education. In the name of freedom (and responsibility), black students occupied Willard Straight Hall, the anti-Vietnam War SDS took over the Engineering Library, proponents of divestment from South Africa built campus shantytowns, and Latinos seized Day Hall. In the name of responsibility (and freedom), the university reclaimed them. The history of Cornell since World War II, Altschuler and Kramnick believe, is in large part a set of variations on the narrative of freedom and its partner, responsibility, the obligation to others and to one's self to do what is right and useful, with a principled commitment to the Cornell community--and to the world outside the Eddy Street gate.

Great Lotion for the price
Size: 32 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I recently picked up the Queen Helene Cocoa Butter Hand & Body Lotion, and I have to say, it’s quickly become a staple in my skincare routine. The first thing I noticed was the rich, creamy texture. It glides on smoothly and doesn’t leave that greasy feeling that some lotions do, which is a huge plus for me. The cocoa butter scent is delightful but not overwhelming. It reminds me of a warm, cozy day, and it lingers just enough to be pleasant without being too much. I usually apply it after my showers, and my skin feels so hydrated and soft for hours afterward. I also appreciate that it comes in a big 32 oz size. I feel like I’m getting good value for my money, and I don’t have to worry about running out anytime soon. Plus, it’s versatile—perfect for both my hands and body. Overall, I’ve enjoyed using this lotion, and it’s definitely helped to keep my skin feeling moisturized, especially as the weather gets colder. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly option that really delivers on hydration and has a lovely scent, I’d recommend giving this one a try!

Queen Helene Cocoa Butter Hand and Body Lotion
Size: 32 Ounce (Pack of 1), Size: 32 Ounce (Pack of 1)
As someone who typically shies away from using lotion due to its heavy and greasy feel, I was initially hesitant to try the Queen Helene Cocoa Butter Hand and Body Lotion. However, after ordering a large bottle for both my husband and me, I can confidently say that I am pleasantly surprised by how much I love it. One of the first things that struck me about this lotion is its delightful scent. With every application, I feel like I've been transported to a serene beach setting, enveloped in the comforting aroma of cocoa butter. It adds a touch of luxury to my skincare routine and leaves me feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. What truly sets this lotion apart for me is its lightweight texture. Unlike other lotions I've tried in the past, this one absorbs quickly into the skin without leaving behind any greasy residue. I appreciate how effortlessly it spreads and how it doesn't weigh down my skin, allowing me to go about my day comfortably. Additionally, I've noticed that the Queen Helene Cocoa Butter Hand and Body Lotion provides ample hydration without feeling heavy or cloying. It leaves my skin feeling soft, smooth, and moisturized, without the need for constant reapplication throughout the day. I would highly recommend this lotion, especially for those with mature skin. Its lightweight, non-greasy formula makes it a joy to use, and the beach-like scent adds a delightful touch to the skincare experience. Overall, I'm thoroughly impressed with the Queen Helene Cocoa Butter Hand and Body Lotion and plan to continue incorporating it into my daily routine.

A lotion that you remember since childhood
Size: 16 Ounce (Pack of 1)
Wow! Queen Helene Cocoa Butter. What can I say about this timeless classic lotion. Well first off, if you were growing up on the free school lunch program or had almost no money in your household while living off other government subsidies, Queen Helene Cocoa Butter was on your shelf somewhere in your home because of its price. I mean it was a budget bottled lotion product that we all poked fun at when you were broke. BUT, it actually does the job. Yeah it really does. For what it has to offer, it works well and has a scent that will remind you of your past growing up just like when you use to apply Ben-Gay on to you. There's a reason this product almost has a 5 out of 5 stars review on Amazon. Because it's a no frills, straight forward lotion that does help moisturize your skin that last for the whole day/night with a pleasant fragrance. You do have to put multiple applications onto you, but it does work and has the same excellent results you would expect from the bigger name products available on the market. We can all have a good laugh about Queen Helene Cocoa Butter on what it represented for those with little money. However, it always did the job on protecting and softening your skin without spending so much money on more expensive lotions. I'll always have a bottle in my house as long as I live because it WORKS!!!
