Of Irish descent, Patrick was born in 1859 on a fairground site in Chester, one of five children. During his lifetime he not only established one of the longest surviving Showmen's fairground attractions but he also achieved the status of being Liberal MP for Walsall and Mayor of Walsall. He was also for a time President of the Showmen's Guild of Great Britain. Pat Collins died in 1943 but the business continued to be run under its original name by his son Patrick Ross Collins, who was born in 1886. Even today, the fair still carries the Pat Collins name, although the company is now owned by another famous name in the fairground fraternity- Anthony Harris and his family.
