The Wood Handle Chalklin Gong Mallets are made for people who love gongs.

A quality mallet is just as important as a quality gong and Chalklin mallets, artisanally crafted, certainly qualify as quality mallets. Paul Chalklin established the company in 1971 and has created their mallets through extensive research gathered from meetings with a wide variety of different percussionists. Hand-crafted using the finest materials, these mallets are distributed around the world.

Paiste Percussion used to have their mallets made exclusively by Chalklin. They  eventually begin to manufacture their own mallets but Chalklin still produces their mallets for sound plates and other tuned mallet percussion.

Chalklin Mallet Company is motivated by Paul Chalklin's belief that mallets can satisfy the specific demands of professional musicians, while still remaining affordable. Chalklin produces mallets of such high quality, they were chosen as the main manufacturer of Paiste Gong Mallets for many years. This goal is firmly reflected in the exact materials and meticulous craftsmanship of these mallets.

This is Stephanie our marvelous part-time warehouse packer, shipping dept. helper, amazing bicyclist, triathlete, and part-time Montessori-ist, holding the Chalklin GM1 mallet.

The GM1 Mallet by Chalklin in the UK is a marvelous little number, with a wooden handle and the synthetic lambswool head many gong players associate with Paiste Mallets. Chalklin still makes many of Paiste's higher-numbered mallets for sound plates and other tuned mallet percussion. So you know you are getting a high-quality delightful gong mallet for your needs.

The Chalklin GM1 works on many size gongs and is optimal for 20 to 26 inches. The head diameter of the Chalklin GM1 most closely matches the Paiste M1 Gong Mallet. Its head's height is about ⅔rds the height of an M1, so it is a little flatter.

GM1 Measurements (Approx):
Head Diameter: 3.25"
Handle Length: 11"

I wouldn’t recommend this for strong chewers.
Color: Orange, Color: Orange
Is it fun? Sure. Was it easy to charge and set up? Yep. That being said, this toy kind of fell flat for me. It really didn’t do any big movements once charged that I expected it to, so that was a bummer. I initially got it for my dog, but my cats were more interested in this than my dog was. The battery does seem to last a long time and the motor is pretty quiet. I WOULD NOT recommend this toy for strong chewers as the material for this is a foam rubber and I don’t think it’s durable enough for strong chewers. While the material makes this ball extremely lightweight for more movement, a strong chewer would have this disintegrated in five minutes flat. My Dog is a super strong chewer. I don’t think I would feel comfortable leaving him unattended with this because I know he would destroy it.

Well-designed and quiet, but didn’t keep my dog interested
Color: Blue
My dog was interested in this at first, but she would lose interest after a few minutes and move on. I do like that it’s quieter than the hard plastic ball toys, and the charge lasts well. The internal charging port that twists closed is also a nice design feature. That said, it will occasionally turn on by itself, which can be a little surprising. Overall, it has some nice features, but it just didn’t keep my dog engaged.

Good - for a few hours
Color: Blue, Color: Blue
Concept is fantastic. Dog loved it. Problem is that she figured out how to open it within two hours of play. The robot core, alas, did not survive. In the photo, you see a tooth went cleanly into the button and that was the end of the toy.
