The strange thing about human biology is that the intestines and many of our other vital organs reside in our relatively exposed abdominal region. In fact, it only takes a shockingly small amount of effort to rupture the abdomen to expel the intestinal tract. Which is probably why you see it represented so often in horror movies and gory haunted house scenes.
