Active Autowerke, a leader in BMW performance products for over 41 years, has developed the F8X BMW M3 & M4 Equal Length Mid Pipe with Active F-brace (US Patent 11248511, UK and EU patent 3882441) as an innovative solution to the unique sound characteristics of the S55 twin turbo engine.

The S55 engine's uneven exhaust pulse spacing, caused by nearly 18 inches difference between the front and rear downpipe lengths, results in a distinctive exhaust note often described as a "weed eater" sound. By equalizing exhaust pipe lengths before the mixing stage, this midpipe corrects pulse timing and delivers a more refined six-cylinder sports car exhaust tone, noticeably different on open throttle.
