Melatonin, “the sleep hormone”, is produced in the pineal gland inside the brain’s epithalamus. It regulates sleep stages (think REM vs deep sleep) as well as circadian rhythms. Even if you wouldn’t consider yourself ‘aging’, maybe you work night shift, you’re required to travel often for work or competition, or you simply aren’t a great sleeper.
