The taps are supplied in pairs a taper tap and a plug tap. The taper tap has a gradual cutting action, due to the pronounced chamfer of the thread, making it suitable for starting a thread. The plug tap has far less of a chamfer and is used after the taper tap to take the thread close to the bottom of the hole.
