A wonderful and scarce seafood or fish service handcrafted by the famous French Sarreguemines faience factory having the trademark 'Sarreguemines' on the back of each piece, circa 1930s. In hues of yellow ochre with caramel, amber and green glazing, this hand glazed set includes ten round smiling fish shaped plates with raised rims, an oval smiling fish shaped platter with raised rim, and a fish shaped sauce boat. The delightful design of the smiling fish in relief fills the entire surface of the plates and platter, and the surface is very detailed with heads, fins and each fish scale individually modeled. Majolica work was added to Sarreguemines production in 1860 and continued until 2007, when the factory finally closed. An impressive and high quality majolica set in very good condition. Dishwasher safe, but not suitable for the oven or microwave.
