First U.K. edition, fifth impression, of this classic, which helped make science fiction mainstream for young adults; issued nine years after the first printing and in the same format. It has been described as "a journey through space and time, from universe to universe" for its main characters, Meg Murry, Charles Wallace Murry, and Calvin O'Keefe, as they seek to save both the Murrys' father, and the world.

It has been adapted to film twice over the years, both times by Disney. First published in the US, this winner of the Newbery Medal, the Sequoyah Book Award, the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award and runner up for the Hans Christian Andersen Award, is a notoriously elusive, and valuable, book in first printing, regularly selling for over £7,000.
